Tribute & Message From The Family

Manuel David Matos Díaz, 36, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 7, 2018 at Cooley Dickinson Hospital after a sudden illness.

He was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and migrated with his parents and brother and his sister to New York City where he completed middle school. He then moved to Clinton, MA where he completed his High School Degree. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science. Manuel continued his graduate schooling and completed his Master's Degree in Physiology. At the time of death, he was a Sociology teacher and Ph.D. candidate at UMASS Amherst.

As a concerned citizen, Manuel was a strong, devoted social advocate for Black equality and the Diaspora. He was a distinguished speaker around the world, fighting against structural racism and in support of women's rights. A lover of music, and arts, Manny was a gentle soul whose infectious laugh lit up a room. He will be remembered as a super cool brother, in all extent of the word.

Our ancestors welcome you home, Viejo Mánue.

He is survived by his parents, Juan and Alma Matos and his siblings, Juan Mators Jr. and Alma Notaro.

Family and friends are invited to visit with Manuel's family on Wednesday, September 12th from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the Callahan, Fay & Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester.
